Slowly, steadily, Lady Maisery have become giants of the modern folk world and are, very simply, jaw-droppingly magnificent.

The combined vocal and multi-instrumental talents of Rowan Rheingans, Hazel Askew and Hannah James make up the uniquely captivating band Lady Maisery who have for well over a decade enraptured audiences throughout the UK and Europe.

Individually three multi award-winning artists, Lady Maisery form a unified voice, carrying stories of sisterhood, human struggle, the joy of living and the vitality of song with the "freshest possible take on traditional music" (Folk Radio UK).

Their long-standing effervescent collaboration has been described as "adventurous and beautiful" (Mark Radcliffe, Radio 2) "exquisite and thrilling" (The Guardian) with "a generosity of spirit and joie de vivre that seems to emanate from every minute of their recorded output as well as from their exuberant live shows" (Folk Radio UK).

Their fifth studio album Tender was released at the end of 2022 to far-reaching acclaim. An arresting record exploring the power in vulnerability, the tenderness of collective wounds and the strength in kindness, it was hailed "a beguiling blend of ancient and modern" (The Times) and "both nurturing and raw, a sensitive response to the times we are living in" (Daily Info).

*Tender* entered the Official Indie Album Charts at number 18, the Official Indie Album Breakers Chart at number 3 (rare accolades for British folk!) before spending a whole year in the Official Folk Chart's top 40.

Full Circle Part II: Show of Hands Return to Their Roots

In the spring of 2024, music enthusiasts and folk fans across the nation are in for a treat as Steve Knightley and Phil Beer prepare to embark on a journey back to where it all began. With a rich history spanning three decades the duo are renowned for their unique ‘hands-on' cottage industry approach to touring, and this upcoming tour promises to be a celebration of their enduring legacy. Village halls, folk clubs, small arts centres, and community venues are the very places where they honed their craft, building their following from the grassroots up.

This will be an opportunity to reconnect with their loyal supporters, and a chance to inspire a new generation of folk musicians. One of the defining aspects of Show of Hands' career has been their unwavering commitment to supporting grassroots promoters. This ethos has not only enriched the folk music scene but also strengthened the bonds between artists and their audiences.

Following this tour, Steve and Phil will be taking a well-deserved break from the limelight. They plan to pursue solo projects, explore new creative horizons, and recharge their artistic batteries. This indefinite hiatus marks the end of an era, but it also heralds exciting new beginnings for two of the folk world’s best loved musicians. Show of Hands' dedication to their roots, their music, and the communities that have supported them is a testament to their enduring legacy.

Taking audiences by storm, Saltlines is a Prose and Music collaboration between bestselling author Raynor Winn and folk-roots supergroup The Gigspanner Big Band, which features some of the most celebrated names on the British folk scene.

Together they have created an emotional odyssey which explores the beauty, stories and traditions of the South West Coast Path.

The vibrant and thought-provoking compositions by Raynor have been especially written for SALTLINES and artfully wrapped around songs and tunes that were originally gathered from the route of the South West Coast Path by the great song collectors Cecil Sharp and Sabine Baring-Gould.

“Saltlines is beautiful. Exquisite musicianship and truly soulful music, led by the radiant Raynor Winn, who performs prose about the sea, nature and love alongside the wonderful Gigspanner Big Band. A must see. A gorgeous night that sends you out of the Theatre smiling. It's just what we need right now”

Marianne Elliott OBE Director (War Horse).

This is an unmissable, life affirming experience for anyone who appreciates beautiful words, inspiring music and above all, cherishes the social and natural history of Britain’s coastline, and the common threads that bind its fragile communities and wildlife.

Formed by legendary Steeleye Span fiddle player Peter Knight, the Gigspanner Big Band line-up features acclaimed multi-instrumental duo Edgelarks (Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin - BBC Folk Awards 'Best Duo') Bellowhead co-founder and melodeon player extraordinaire, John Spiers, Roger Flack on guitar and Sacha Trochet on percussion.

Recent winners of the best Cornish Choir Contest in the International Male Choral Festival 2024.

With more than 40 singing members, the Mevagissey Male Choir remains one of the most successful and popular in Cornwall.
Formed in 1974 by local men in Percy Mitchell’s Portmellon boatyard, the Choir is now approaching its 50th anniversary, with well over 1,100 concerts under its belt.

The Mevagissey Male Choir are proud that two or three of their founding members still regularly turn out, but are equally delighted that they continue to appeal to younger men, attracted by their modern approach and friendly social life.

Their popularity reflects the Choir’s willingness to embrace all genres of music, and to take on ever more challenging pieces, without ever sacrificing quality.
They are fortunate to be blessed with a first class music team, led by bandleader Jimmy Cannon and assisted by Matthew Fox, an extremely talented accompanist.

The Choir’s ‘mission’, apart from raising money for good causes, is to entertain.
As one of Cornwall’s more progressive and versatile male choirs, the Mevagissey Male Choir are proud of their extensive repertoire that ranges from Bizet and Puccini to Robbie Williams and Freddie Mercury, musicals to shanties, not forgetting traditional choir music and, of course, songs from Cornwall’s rich choral heritage.

This event will be seated.

Since they made their album debut back in 2010, Police Dog Hogan have been building a reputation as one of the country’s finest live bands and folk-country acts,” said Folk Radio in 2022.

Police Dog Hogan combine guitar, fiddle, banjo, trumpet and accordion with bass and drums to create a driving country-folk sound that has earned them a large live following. They’ve played dozens of festivals, many of them repeatedly, including Glastonbury, Cropredy, Cornbury, Kendall Calling, Black Deer and the Sidmouth Folk Festival.

"A good night out guaranteed"
Mark Radcliffe BBC Radio 2 Folk Show

After the release of their album Overground – which spent 4 weeks on the UK Folk albums chart – Police Dog Hogan returned to steady touring, with dates taking them across the UK. The band also spent much of 2023 in the studio, releasing regular new singles to streaming platforms beginning with the stunning Just Breathe in April – each track produced (with the band) by George Murphy, who also produced Overground. 2024 sees plans already advanced for an autumn tour and a new album

“Since they made their album debut back in 2010, Police Dog Hogan have been building a reputation as one of the country’s finest live bands and folk-country acts… Overground is their finest hour yet.”
Folk Radio.

In 2018 their song Devon Brigade was nominated for best original song at the AMA-UK Awards. Overground will be their first full-length release since 2017’s Wild By The Side of the Road, produced by Oysterband’s Al Scott, which spent several weeks in the Official UK Americana charts. The tour supporting that album culminated in a sold out show at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

In 2014 PDH were one of only three UK bands invited to Nashville to perform at the prestigious Americana Music Association Awards, where DJ Bob Harris – in town for the awards – snapped them up for a recording that has become one of the most-watched YouTube videos on his “Under the Apple Tree Sessions” channel.

“They manage to fuse bluegrass, folk, country and more in a way that few others can match.”
RnR Magazine

Returning in 2024, The Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines will, once again, be performing a Christmas Spectacular concert in the upper cavern. This really is going to sound awesome!

In addition to its musical, ceremonial role, the Royal Marines Band Service has a long tradition of providing military support to UK Defence. In 2001/2002, the Plymouth Band undertook a six-month deployment to Kosovo as part of Medical Squadron, Commando Logistic Regiment. This was followed by a four-month deployment to the Middle East as a part of Exercise Saif Sareea. During 2002/2003, members of the band were involved in the Armed Forces’ response to Fire Brigade Union industrial action, and provided primary and secondary role support to military operations in Iraq. In 2008/2009, members of Plymouth band deployed to Afghanistan as part of the UK Medical Group and more recently in 2011 the RMBS deployed members of CTCRM Band with 3 Commando Brigade as part of Operation Herrick 14.

In recent years the band has enjoyed many varied and high profile events including support to the 2012 Olympics as well as performing at the Trinidad and Tobago Tattoo in the same year. In 2013 the band supported the 100th Anniversary International Fleet Review in Sydney, Australia which was followed by a three month deployment on HMS Daring. 2014 bought many events celebrating 350 years of the Royal Marines, including performances on Horseguards Parade with the Massed Bands of HM Royal Marines and more locally with the South West Proms concert at Plymouth Albion RFC. In 2015 the band provided support to the Poppy Ball in Abu Dhabi; the largest fund raising event for the Royal British Legion outside of the UK and more recently in 2016 visited New Delhi in India where the band enjoyed the opportunity to work with the Indian Navy Band which culminated in a joint performance at the iconic India Gate Memorial in front of an estimated audience of 8000.

In 2017 the band were centre stage for the Passchendaele commemorations in Ypres before parading in front of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in his last public appearance as the Captain General Royal Marines. They also returned to Abu Dhabi again in support the RBL Poppy Ball. 2018 bought many massed bands commitments where Plymouth band joined the rest of the RMBS at the Mountbatten Festival of Music, Beating Retreat and The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Later in the year, the band travelled to Bucharest in Romania to celebrate 100 years since all the historical provinces joined together to make one unified country. 2019 has proved no less busy with the band travelling to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Algeria and the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) to celebrate the Queens birthday. The visit to Europe also gave the band the chance to perform as the first military band in the new NATO HQ in Brussels. A visit to Gibraltar in support of the Gibraltar Natwest International Island Games XVIII followed in June, before a flying visit to Canada in support of HMS Queen Elizabeth in September.

2020 started with the band travelling to London to perform at the Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall, this including performing for HRH Prince Harry’s final duty as a working Royal before the pandemic bought the country to shut-down. During this time, members of the band took to the internet with many featuring in various on line projects before gradually getting back to performing, the band performing on Horseguards Parade as part of the Tri Service band for the VJ 70 anniversary commemorations in August 2020. In 2021 the band were involved in both HM Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee celebrations as well as being one of the many military contingents for the funeral of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in April 2021. They were also involved, as were so many others, at the State funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 before a visit to New York City for performances at the Empire State Building, Central Park and Grand Central Station as well as a performance with Kathrine Jenkins OBE on board HMS Queen Elizabeth as part of the Atlantic Future Forum. A highlight for many came earlier this year when the band were among the military contingents who performed for the coronation of King Charles III in May 2023.
